Chinese Braised Pork Shoulder Slow Cooker

Keep your house cool and dinner easy with this tasty Asian inspired pork shoulder crockpot recipe with five spice, soy sauce, ginger, and brown sugar.

Put the pork shoulder and the remaining ingredients in the crockpot in the morning and don't worry about what's for dinner tonight.   Shred the pork with a couple forks and dig in.

Don't have a crockpot?  Chunk the pork shoulder, and simmer , stirring occasionally, on the stovetop covered ~ 1 ½ - 2 hours (or until pork is tender) instead and shred with a fork.

The stovetop method will reduce more liquid (so careful not to burn) and intensify the flavors more than the crockpot.

I prefer the stovetop method when I have time because the flavor concentrates a bit more in the pork shoulder. The crockpot method results in very tender and still flavorful meat with more liquid and less work or "watch time".
